Tatreez

Cross-stitch pattern maker

Design your own cross-stitch patterns, free, in your browser

Tatreez Studio is a cross-stitch pattern maker that opens straight into the editor. Draw on a stitch grid, pick real DMC threads, mirror your work as you go, and stitch it when you're done.

A cross-stitch chart maker that feels like stitching

Every square on the grid is one stitch, so what you draw is exactly what you'll stitch. Zoom in to place single stitches, or zoom out to see the whole piece at once.

  • Full stitches, backstitch and French knots on the same chart.
  • Symmetry mirrors each stitch across one or both axes, so borders and medallions come out even.
  • Motif stamps drop a whole motif onto your design in one go, from your own designs or the Tatreez Library.
  • Undo and redo for every change, and your work saves as you go.

Real thread colours

The palette is real embroidery floss, so the colours on screen are colours you can buy. Choose from the full DMC range or the Tatreez Classics, a short palette of traditional tatreez colours. Each colour shows its thread number, and the chart keeps a count of how many stitches use it.

Start from a motif, or a blank grid

Begin with an empty canvas, or start from one of more than 970 heritage motifs in the Tatreez Library and make it your own. Geometric borders, florals, birds, cypress trees and stars are all there to stamp, recolour and rearrange.

Free, and Pro when you need more

Designing is free: up to five designs, canvases up to 150 × 150 stitches and up to 30 colours. Pro removes the limits (up to 900 × 900 stitches and unlimited colours), adds fractional stitches, layers and version history, and exports printable PDF charts and .oxs files.

Frequently asked questions

Is the cross-stitch pattern maker really free?

Yes. You can open the editor and design without an account or a card. A free account keeps up to five designs; Pro removes the limits.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Tatreez Studio runs in any modern browser on a computer or tablet. Apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac are coming soon, and your designs will sync between them.

Can I print my pattern?

Pro exports a printable PDF cross-stitch chart with symbols, a thread key and a floss shopping list, and an .oxs file you can open in other cross-stitch apps and pattern readers.

Which threads can I use?

The full DMC range, plus the Tatreez Classics palette. Every colour on the chart is a real thread with its number.
